Greenhouse crops are cultivated in an optimized environment, allowing them to reach their full growth potential. To achieve high-quality yields and maximum productivity, a consistent and balanced supply of nutrients is essential. For example, producing 10,000 kilograms of cucumber fruits requires 2.5–3.0% organic matter in the soil, along with 27.3 kg of available nitrogen, 13.0 kg of phosphorus, and 34.7 kg of potassium, in addition to a proper balance of micronutrients. Enhancing soil fertility, maintaining nutrient balance, and increasing the production capacity of greenhouse soils are fundamental practices for ensuring both high yield and superior quality in vegetable farming. But how can we effectively boost soil fertility? The first step is to focus on the use of biological bacterial fertilizers. While the total amounts of potassium and phosphorus in the soil may be as high as 180 kg and 120 kg per acre respectively, up to 80–90% of these nutrients remain unavailable to plants. Applying compound fertilizers can speed up the breakdown of organic residues and the transformation of insoluble minerals like phosphorus and potassium. Adding microbial-based fertilizers, especially high-quality ones such as konjac bio-fertilizers, is becoming a crucial strategy in reducing chemical fertilizer use. Combining new greenhouse soil maturation techniques with regular applications of biological fertilizers has proven highly effective. Studies show that applying 7.5–10 kg of premium organic bio-fertilizer can result in stronger plant growth, more fruit set, longer harvesting periods, and long-term benefits throughout the growing season. The second key approach is to increase the maturity of organic fertilizers. This is the foundation of improving soil fertility, as organic fertilizers provide a complete range of nutrients. In greenhouse vegetable cultivation, they not only supply essential nutrients for crop growth but also enhance soil structure, activate nutrients, and improve overall soil health. However, it's vital that organic fertilizers are fully decomposed—using composting methods can help break them down quickly. If not properly decomposed, they may negatively affect the crops and even lead to disease or poor growth. Therefore, careful preparation and application of matured organic fertilizers are essential for sustainable and productive greenhouse farming.
