Fermentation bed should pay attention to what matters

When using a fermentation bed for pigs, there are several important factors to consider. First, the bacterial dosage is crucial. For about 15 pigs, you should use 2 kg of fermentation auxiliary fertilizer. This amount should be sprinkled at once, with the rest added gradually. The sty area must be at least 10 square meters, and the pig density shouldn’t be too high. If it is, the bed may stop fermenting due to excessive urine accumulation. Next, how to dilute the bacteria matters. Goldfish fermentation aids should be mixed with rice bran (or corn flour, or bran) in a ratio of 1:5 or more. Fresh rice bran works better than old ones. Once mixed, it should be evenly sprinkled into the sawdust. If possible, you can spray a small amount of 5% brown sugar water onto the mixture to enhance the fermentation process. The amount of sawdust is also important. For an area of 20 square meters, the litter should be at least 50 cm thick, requiring around 10 cubic meters of sawdust. Too thin won’t support proper fermentation, while too thick might cause internal overheating. Fermentation aids can be scattered all at once or in layers. It’s best to use dry, old sawdust that has been dried properly (UV sterilization can help prevent skin irritation). If the bedding becomes too dry, a small amount of water or brown sugar water can be sprayed on the surface. Normally, no additional moisture should be added, as the waste from the pigs will naturally create the right humidity over time. For alternative litter materials, sawdust is ideal, but if not available, rice husks or straw can be used instead. However, the top 20 cm should still be sawdust. Rice husks should be broken, and straw should be cut into short pieces (less than 0.5 cm) or crushed, but not too fine. Finally, maintaining the right humidity is essential. The litter should be kept moist enough to avoid dust, which can affect pig respiration. If it's too dry, just spray a little water on the surface. After pigs urinate, the maximum humidity should not exceed 65%. Also, make sure that rainwater or groundwater doesn’t seep into the bed. The standard sty area should be at least 20 square meters, and the minimum should not go below 10 square meters for a fermentation bed.
