In order to help reduce this year’s agricultural production costs, I’d like to share some general knowledge about selecting the right oil for agricultural tractors. This information is especially useful for households that rely heavily on machinery, as using the correct type of oil can improve efficiency and extend the life of your equipment.
First, choosing the right diesel fuel is essential. Agricultural tractors typically use light diesel, which comes in different grades based on its pour point—such as 10, 0, -10, -20, and -35. To save on expenses, most areas in Jilin Province only need diesel grades 0 and -20 for regular farming operations. Diesel No. 0 is suitable for summer use, while No. -10 or -20 is recommended for winter. In other regions, it's important to choose the appropriate grade based on local temperature conditions to ensure smooth engine operation.
Next, selecting the right engine oil is crucial. Agricultural diesel engines require diesel engine oil, which is usually available in grades 8, 11, and 14. In summer, grade 8 is commonly used, while grade 11 is preferred during colder months.
Then there's gear oil, which is divided into two main types: 20 and 30. During the summer, grade 30 is ideal, while grade 20 should be used in winter. It's very important to note that you should never substitute engine oil for gear oil, nor mix it with diesel or kerosene. Doing so can lower the viscosity and damage the lubrication properties, leading to increased wear on the gears.
Lastly, when it comes to grease (or "butter"), it's not a one-size-fits-all solution. Different parts of the diesel engine require different types of grease depending on their operating conditions:
1. For parts that come into contact with water or moisture and operate at lower temperatures, calcium-based or synthetic calcium-based grease is suitable.
2. For high-temperature components, calcium-based or synthetic calcium grease works well.
3. If the part doesn’t come into contact with water and operates at high temperatures, sodium-based or synthetic sodium grease is a good choice.
4. When dealing with high temperatures and heavy loads, it's better to use a higher-grade grease.
5. In general, higher-grade grease is used in summer, while lower-grade grease is more suitable for winter.
By understanding these basics, farmers can make informed decisions and optimize their machinery performance while keeping costs under control.
