The eggshell feed process begins by collecting hatched shells from the hatchery and spreading them on a concrete floor to dry. During summer, the drying period is typically three days, while in autumn and winter, it takes about five days. The shells should be spread in a layer of 3 to 4 cm thick. It's important not to turn the shells until the moisture has fully evaporated. Once they are completely dry, frequent turning helps ensure even drying. Afterward, the shells are crushed using a grinder, any impurities are removed, and the final product is stored in a dry, well-ventilated area.
For fly maggot feed, start with 5 kilograms of soybeans, which are soaked and allowed to swell. The pulp is then extracted and mixed with 10 kilograms of bran to form a paste. This mixture is placed into a cylinder or barrel, sealed tightly, and left to ferment in the sun. In summer, fermentation takes about three days, while in autumn and winter, it may take up to a week. From this process, approximately 20 to 30 kg of fresh quail can be produced, which is enough to feed 500 chickens or ducks for a week.
Various plant materials such as straw, rice husks, corn stalks, rape, sunflower seeds, legumes, and bean hulls are rich in nutrients. These can be air-dried, crushed into powder, and used as a partial replacement for concentrate feed. For pigs, these materials can make up 25% to 30% of their diet, while for poultry, an 8% inclusion rate is recommended.
Leaf-based feeds like pine needles, loquat leaves, and mulberry leaves are excellent sources of nutrition. When pine needles are ground into a fine powder and added to animal feed, they help supplement protein and vitamin deficiencies. Adding 5% pine needle powder to chicken feed has been shown to increase egg production by around 15%.
Chicken manure, when properly dried, contains 28.7% crude protein, 13.9% crude fiber, 7.8% calcium, 2.1% phosphorus, and 11.4% moisture. It serves as a valuable feed source for pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, and fish. Collected chicken manure should be sun-dried or dried thoroughly, then sieved to remove any impurities. A mix of 70% dry chicken manure, 20% hay powder, and 10% bran is prepared and fermented in a tank or pool for about 20 days before being used as animal feed.
