How old age began

In 2001, the World Health Organization set a target for dental care for middle-aged and elderly people: At the age of 80, at least 20 teeth could be chewed properly. However, in China, the third national oral health epidemiological survey released by the Ministry of Health showed that among the elderly aged 65-74, 86.1% of teeth were missing, 20.97 teeth were average, and 10.51% were teeth. There is no leftover tooth, only 57.68% of people have more than 20 permanent teeth, and the prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease in the remaining natural teeth is also high. This is because older people have poor knowledge of oral health care and physical functions begin to age. Therefore, the risk of caries and periodontal disease is much higher than that of young people.

For the elderly, if they can't afford to lose their teeth, protection is the key, starting from the following aspects:

1. Brush your teeth sooner or later, rinse your mouth with salt water. Older people should insist on brushing their teeth with warm water every morning and evening. Brushing before bedtime is more important than brushing teeth in the morning. In addition, after three meals a day, you can rinse your mouth with salt water. When you rinse your mouth, use the momentum of water to remove the food residue from the teeth.

2. Diet mouth guard. Eat less food that is overheated, overcooled, oversweet, or too sweet. Eat more whole grains to increase the chewing strength and self-cleaning effect of the teeth. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits and provide enough nutrition for periodontal tissues.

3. Go to the hospital every six months to one year. Older people who already have oral diseases need active treatment, dental caries should be filled, and periodontal disease must undergo systematic periodontal treatment.

4. The less teeth need to be cherished. When many middle-aged and old people still have a few teeth left, they would like to brush their teeth and put on false teeth. In fact, keeping natural teeth as much as possible can not only avoid the absorption of alveolar bone, but also improve the stability and chewing function of artificial teeth.

5. The fangs move the tongue. From the perspective of Chinese medicine, proper dental caries and tongue transport are good methods for oral health care. Tooth decay is to let the upper and lower teeth "fight", once every morning and evening, every 30 times; tongue is to move the tongue back and forth in the mouth to promote saliva secretion, have a certain effect on the prevention of mucous membrane dry mouth.

6. Massage gums. Using the thumb and index finger to massage the gums in a certain direction, each time for 5 minutes, can promote blood circulation of the gums, alveolar ridges and pulp, and prevent the gums from shrinking.

7. Chew properly. The correct way to chew is to use two side teeth alternately.
