**Breeding Pond Preparation**
1. Drain your fish pond and let it dry for about a week. Then, spread 20 pounds of phosphate fertilizer per mu evenly across the bottom before refilling with water.
2. Use an 80-mesh filter to clean the incoming water before it enters the pond.
3. Two days after filling the pond with water, start introducing broodstock shrimp. For each mu, add 7 kg of female shrimp and 3 kg of male shrimp.
4. When selecting shrimp for breeding, choose those with bright green tails and larger size, as they are more likely to produce bigger offspring. Shrimp often molt when moved, so quality is key.
**Monitoring Shrimp Development**
1. Check for shrimp larvae: In the first stage, look inside the female shrimp’s abdomen—before the eggs hatch, you should see them in the pouch. If many have separated from the mother, use a white ceramic bowl to scoop water from 30 cm below the surface. Look for small, snowflake-like particles. If you spot these, it means shrimp larvae are present. It's time to start feeding them soy milk.
2. A few days later, check again. You may see tiny, matchstick-shaped creatures with a head and tail. If you find them, you’ve successfully hatched the second stage. After three more days, the shrimp will be fully developed, swimming backward with their bellies up. Don’t worry—it’s normal. Wait another 3–4 days until they can swim like regular shrimp. At this point, they’ll be around 3,000 to 5,000 per pound, and no longer need to be fed milk. Now, you can transfer them to a culture pond.
**Culture Pond Management**
1. Prepare the pond similarly to the breeding pond, but ensure the water depth is at least 80 cm.
2. Restock in late June or early July.
3. Stock about 3,000–5,000 shrimp per 15 kg (dry weight), or roughly 10,000 per 10 kg. To catch them, grow some aquatic plants like water peanuts in the pond and use a net to "snap" the shrimp hiding under the plants. You can also set up a trap cage behind the net.
4. Install oxygenation equipment during summer to prevent hypoxia. Avoid standing water along the pond edge for more than a week.
5. By mid-July, introduce 10 flower buds, 15 white pelicans, and 5 grass carp, all smaller than 20 cm in size.
6. Start selling small catches by the end of October.
This method ensures a successful shrimp breeding cycle, from hatching to market-ready size. With proper care and timing, fishermen can enjoy a sustainable and profitable shrimp farming operation.
