Cut the umbilical cord at 4–5 cm from the piglet’s body, then apply 5% iodine to prevent infection. Proper care reduces the risk of bacterial infections. 4. Ensure adequate milk supply. Sows should have enough milk to feed all piglets. Provide protein-rich concentrates and juicy green feed during lactation. If milk production is low, consider using prolactin supplements. Sort piglets by size to ensure even feeding, and encourage them to latch onto specific teats for better nutrition. 5. Introduce early feeding. Start feeding piglets small amounts of feed around one week of age to stimulate their digestive systems and prevent nutritional deficiencies. Early feeding supports growth and development. 6. Prevent diarrhea. Diarrhea is common in young pigs, often characterized by white, yellowish-green stools or undigested milk particles. It can lead to dehydration and death if not controlled. Reduce feeding frequency and offer dry feed to manage symptoms. Medications like oxytetracycline or tetracycline can also be used. Herbal remedies such as purslane, centella asiatica, and red root can be added to the diet to support gut health.
