Why Biological Pesticides Were Caught

In recent years, as the demand for pollution-free agricultural products has grown, a variety of bio-pesticides with high efficiency, low toxicity, no residue, and no pollution have emerged across the nation. These eco-friendly solutions are being widely promoted and applied. However, in our city, the adoption and usage of these bio-pesticides in agricultural practices remain sluggish. Many farmers continue to favor traditional, highly toxic pesticides to combat crop pests and diseases. What factors contribute to this resistance? One major challenge lies in the lack of essential skills needed for the proper use of bio-pesticides. These are advanced, technology-driven products that require specific knowledge to apply effectively. Last summer, a farmer in Suyu County faced severe losses after applying bio-pesticides to fight cotton bollworms. Despite multiple applications over several days, the pests were not controlled. Frustrated, the farmer resorted to using high-toxic pesticides, but the delay in intervention led to significant crop damage. Another farmer tried to test the effectiveness of bio-pesticides by soaking captured insects in a solution, only to find the pests survived. Outraged, he declared he would never use bio-pesticides again. Further investigation revealed both farmers lacked proper training on how to use bio-pesticides effectively. The first farmer missed the optimal treatment window by 20 days, while the second misunderstood the mode of action, which involves chronic poisoning rather than immediate kill effects. Another obstacle is the lingering presence of highly toxic pesticides in the market. Farmers often weigh costs and find bio-pesticides more expensive than conventional options. To cut expenses, many opt for cheaper, albeit harmful, alternatives. Additionally, regulatory bodies continue to allow the sale of these dangerous chemicals, making it easy for farmers to access them. This financial pressure and the persistence of toxic pesticides in agricultural markets hinder the widespread adoption of bio-pesticides. Moreover, there's a pricing issue. A vegetable grower expressed frustration when trying to sell his "green" produce at a premium price. Consumers were skeptical and unwilling to pay more for what they perceived as no different from conventional crops. This reluctance to recognize the added value of organic produce dampens farmers' motivation to invest in bio-pesticides, creating another hurdle for their widespread acceptance. The promotion of bio-pesticides is a complex task requiring a multifaceted approach. Relevant authorities should focus on technical training, ensuring proper certification of pollution-free agricultural products, regulating pesticide markets, and enhancing agricultural profitability. As a high-tech innovation, bio-pesticides hold immense potential to revolutionize agricultural practices, fostering the production of cleaner, safer food.
