★ Gold Branch ★

The Gold Branch is a deciduous shrub belonging to the genus Verbena, known for its striking golden foliage. From the early stages of leaf development through full maturity and even during defoliation, the leaves remain consistently golden yellow, making it a highly ornamental flowering shrub. It pairs beautifully with red-leafed plants like cypress, yew, or other colorful foliage, creating vibrant color contrasts that enhance group planting effects. Especially in lawns, large blocks of this golden foliage stand out as a bold and eye-catching element, often serving as the finishing touch in landscape design. Compared to similar species like Ligustrum chinensis and Bombyx hortorum, the Gold Branch exhibits stronger adaptability, thriving in poor soils and showing vigorous regrowth. Its branches are purplish-red, with lance-shaped leaves and serrated edges. It has good cold tolerance and prefers sunny conditions, making it ideal for use as a foliage plant or for flower viewing. With its bright golden hue in spring and summer and a rich blue tone in autumn, it's a versatile choice for landscaping, suitable for hedges, ground covers, or even sculpted into balls. Its high ornamental value ensures a promising future in garden design.

★ A Unique New Colorful Tree Species
The American Red Peony is a variant of the American Jaundice tree, also known as a yellow maple. Native to the United States and parts of East Asia, it is a deciduous shrub or small tree. Introduced to Yuzhong and Dingzhou City’s nurseries, it has undergone domestication and selection, now showcasing unique characteristics as a colorful tree. With its large, vibrant leaves and potential to develop a tree-like form through horticultural techniques, it plays a special role in urban greening and beautification. It was selected as one of the key colorful tree species for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, highlighting its significance in modern landscaping.

★ Holly ★

Holly, scientifically known as Euonymus japonicus, is an evergreen shrub with dark green, serrated leaves. It features lush, dense foliage that remains green year-round, making it a popular choice for hedges and ornamental plantings. It thrives in moist, partially shaded environments but can also grow well in general soil conditions, showing little environmental sensitivity. Once established, it requires minimal care—watering every 15 days and occasional topdressing with nitrogen-based liquid fertilizer in spring and autumn. Due to its frequent new growth, it is highly tolerant of pruning. In summer, shaping is recommended, while in autumn, it can be trimmed into spherical or conical shapes depending on the desired effect. In colder regions, protective measures such as mulching can help it survive winter. Common diseases include leaf spot, which can be controlled using fungicides like carbendazim and chlorothalonil. Propagation is typically done through cuttings in May or June, using healthy lateral shoots from the middle and upper parts of the plant. Cuttings are treated with rooting powder and placed in a shaded, well-ventilated nursery bed for optimal survival rates.

★ Mei Mei, Shu Ye Mei ★

Mei Mei is a plum blossom variety introduced by Professor Chen Junyu, a renowned U.S. plum expert, and planted in open fields in Beijing. It has been growing successfully for many years. Known for its beautiful purple flowers and leaves, it displays a striking deep purple throughout the year, with a diameter of about 3 cm and 26 double petals. It can withstand temperatures as low as -30°C and is commonly used as a rootstock for peach and apricot grafts, achieving a survival rate of over 95%. As a colorful flowering tree, Mei Mei was selected by the Chinese Academy of Sciences as one of the first tree species for greenery, beautification, and support for the Beijing Olympics. In early spring, when new leaves begin to emerge, it produces a cluster of pink flowers with a strong fragrance, symbolizing the arrival of spring and inspiring confidence in new ventures.

The leaves are opposite, leathery, and elliptical or obovate, with a glossy green surface and a yellow-green underside. Small yellow-green flowers appear in clusters from April to May, followed by oval fruits. There are several varieties, including Buxus microphylla, with spoon-shaped or inverted lanceolate leaves and a dark green, shiny surface, and Buxus 'Pearl', which is also evergreen and prized for its aesthetic appeal. These species are particularly valued for bonsai cultivation. Boxwood is native to central China, growing naturally below 1,300 meters in elevation, and is widely cultivated in the Yangtze River basin and southern regions.
