(1) Needs for growth of young trees: The annual growth cycle of apple tree saplings has large shoot growth, many growth times, and a high percentage of autumn shoots. Roots grow rapidly, often with three growth peaks and a third growth. The peak appeared after the autumn shoots stopped. The ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, young tree nitrogen: phosphorus (P2O5): potassium (K2O), should be 2:2:1 or 1:2:1.
(2) The basal fertilizer should be early, and the top dressing should be skillful: the basal fertilizer should be dominated by organic fertilizers, combined with phosphorus, potash fertilizer and appropriate amount of available nitrogen fertilizer. According to the growth characteristics of saplings, the basal fertilizer should be applied early after the autumn shoots are stopped, which will not only benefit the third growth of the root system, but also increase the photosynthetic capacity of the leaves and increase the storage and accumulation of the tree nutrients.
Sapling top dressing should be used according to fertilizer type and tree vigor. Strong prosperous young trees, topdressing nitrogen fertilizer should be carried out after the slow growth period of spring shoots and the length of autumn shoots. For young saplings with weak growth, nitrogen fertilizers should be applied before the beginning of the early spring, and they should be applied in small quantities several times. After nitrogen uptake, unsuccessful saplings generally applied 250 g of ammonium sulfate per plant, and the initial result was 500 g per plant. Topdressing phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be determined according to the results of saplings. No flowers or young flowers are used. The top-dressing fertilizer in the growing season is preferably an organic quick-release fertilizer, such as decomposed human excrement, and 10-20 kg per plant. The saplings that have become flowers and have fruit set will be top-dressed for the first time. They should start early when the spring shoots begin to grow and when there are more fruit set.
(3) Appropriate fertilization method: Young apple trees and basal fertilizers are suitable for circular fertilization. The annular groove expands year by year and is slightly deeper than the main distribution layer of the root system. The topdressing fertilizer is combined with dressing fertilizer outside the root. Soil topdressing can be applied alternately every year by means of radial furrows, acupuncture, spreading, or three methods. Fertilizers outside the roots are mainly nitrogen in the early stage of growth, and the proportion of phosphorus and potassium is increased in the middle and late stages of growth.
