Native to Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Hi warm and cold-resistant. Requires sunny, well-drained sandy soil. Underground with hypertrophied bulbs, reticular membrane. Leaves linear or sword-shaped, terminal spikes, fresh yellow-brown, flower diameter 4-5cm. There are purple, red and other gardening varieties. Flowering May-June. The ball breeding, suitable for autumn planting, can be used for potted viewing, cutting flowers and flower border materials.
There are about 16 species of this genus, and common hybrids include T. crocosmiiflora, T. pottsii, and T. aurea.
